Two more days to go

The first night of the Adult Hockey for Beginners Course is two days away.

A concern now is that a dry throat and a runny nose is going to grow into a potentially more debilitating sickness. But I think I would have to be pretty laid out not to have adrenalin take over. I simply cannot imagine that I would miss the first night.

A couple of equipment-related thoughts.

  • Thanks to neighbour Michel for giving me some tips on taping my skates. I had read some conflicting and confusing theories, but he seemed to offer some straightforward advice: single strip along the bottom of the blade, tape from the shaft to the end of the blade, scuff and warm up by rubbing a puck along the tape.
  • Last night I had on all my equipment (with my skates!) and it quickly became obvious that I need to work on the order with which I get dressed. Like I don’t need my shoulder and elbow pads before I lace up my skates. I am now wondering if I can actually put my skates on before my pants. Do you think the pants are big enough to slip over the skates?

A note about ‘The Rocket’

A few people have asked me what's up with the image at the top of the page. Well, it's an image courtesy of Marc Audet. Along with being a weird hybrid Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators fan, he is also one of the region's top illustrators. You can check out more of his work at Rocket 57
