Tonite the puck drops on my second season of hockey. Although to be honest, it hasn’t really let up since I started taking the Adult Beginners Course last October. In fact, the longest I have gone between being on skates is ten days!
So here’s an update on what I have been up to and what is planned for the fall and winter:
- Throughout the entire summer I had a weekly game on Thursday nights at the Carleton Ice House.
- I signed up to ottawarechockey.com , a website that organizes and administers a whole whack of pickup games in the Ottawa region. Now I am not sure exactly how it all goes down from the organization end, but if you are in this neck of the woods and looking for a game, check out the site to learn more. I have been able to skate in two games and each time the calibre was terrific and challenging. I’ll write more on this later on.
Now for this upcoming season, here’s what I have lined up so far:
- From now until May 1, I’ll have a game every Friday night at the SensPlex. That works out to 33 games!
- Also at the SensPlex, and on Monday nights, I have signed for another ‘Adult Dynamic Skills’ course. This is a six-week course that will begin October 20th. Last spring’s course at the SensPlex was so challenging, I simply could not turn down the opportunity to do it again.
- On Tuesday nights I will continue with the City of Ottawa’s Hockey for Beginners courses. While last winter was the Level 1 course, this time I will be taking the Level 2 course. And as like last year, I will be doing the Hockey Skills and Power Skating course back-to-back for a solid two-hour workout.
As tonite’s ice time slowly creeps closer, there is one thought I want to keep in my mind as a new season begins: I want to take chances! I want to keep trying new things. In thinking back over the past two months or so, I feel I leveled off a bit because I reached a level that I was comfortable with. And this meant instead of trying new moves and things, I stuck with the stuff I new I could execute.
So here’s to new things and falling on my arse!
Hey Allen,
I just stumbled onto your site and i’m hoping you can give me a hand. Could you give me a contact # or link for the City Of Ottawa beginner courses you took… I can’t seem to find any info ‘googling’
I just signed up for the Bell Sensplex Dynamic Skills Course but after reading some of your entries I believe I’ll be in completely over my head!
thanks
